DESOTO COUNTY — Nearly 32 percent of DeSoto County’s 4,652 registered Republicans cast their votes in Tuesday’s presidential primary.

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney won Florida with 46.42 percent of the vote with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich taking second with 31.93 percent, according to the Florida Division of Elections. Former Sen. Rick Santorum came in third with 13.3 percent and Rep. Ron Paul took an even 7 percent. The remaining candidates, Michelle Bachmann, Herman Cain, Jon Huntsman, Gary Johnson and Rick Perry each took less than 1 percent of the votes cast.
