A reconstituted city construction board that was dormant for several years heard its first case this week, signaling a new crackdown on unlicensed contractors in the city.

The Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals issued a number of cease-and-desist (stop-work) orders, but didn’t level any fines, and let two defendants off the hook.
