Third person charged in kidnapping
SOUTH VENICE — The third person suspected of involvement in an alleged kidnapping and beating of a 21-year-old woman that took place earlier this month has been arrested.
According to a Sarasota County sheriff’s report, Audrey Jean Schillinger, aka Audrey Simms, 24, of the 2500 block of Border Road, Venice, was arrested Monday at 3:30 p.m. and charged with kidnapping with infliction of bodily harm. Joan Catherine Clark, 28, of the 2100 block of Park Road, Venice, was arrested Sunday evening on the same charge, as was James A. Simms, 30, of the 600 block of Carmel Road, Venice, last week. The victim told deputies that, on the night of Jan. 23, the three forced her into Simm’s truck near Baffin and Sterling Roads in South Venice. They beat her several times, taking her cellphone and searching her for money she was supposedly carrying before dropping her off near the Manasota Beach Road bridge. Schillinger, who has also been charged with two counts of possession of marijuana, is being held at the Sarasota County Jail without bond. Simms, facing a $50,000 bond, and Clark, whose bond is $15,000, also remained behind bars.
