Don’t trust your safety to luck

On Jan. 31, the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Diamondback rescued two Englewood men whose boat had capsized approximately 13 miles west of Stump Pass. Details of the boater’s misadventure were reported by the Sun newspaper the following Thursday.
The two men had departed Englewood earlier in the day to do some fishing on the last day of the red grouper season. They also said they knew there were small craft advisories on the Gulf waters, although the winds were supposed to die down later in the day.
