ARCADIA — One Arcadia man is dead while another has charges pending in an early morning two-vehicle crash in DeSoto County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 21-year-old Arcadia man was driving a 2003 Jaguar sedan east on State Road 70 around 1:45 a.m. Sunday and approaching N.W. Pine Level Street, while a second Arcadia man, 21, in a 2001 Toyota sedan, was stopped on N.W. Pine Level Street at the stop sign intersection of S.R. 70.
The man in the Toyota made a right turn onto S.R. 70 into the path of the Jaguar.
The Jaguar struck the rear of the Toyota. The Toyota went off the road and overturned on the shoulder.
The Jaguar also went off-road, struck a wooden fence and caught on fire.
The driver of the Jaguar fled the scene on foot and was later located at his residence.
The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene.
FHP reported that the crash, including the speed of the Jaguar, remains under investigation and that charges are pending.
