Bertha Ann Loughren

Bertha Ann Loughren, of Arcadia, passed away on Nov. 20, 2018, in Sarasota. She was 81. Ms. Loughren was born on Nov. 24, 1936, in Lake Alfred, Fla., to the late Bernard and Essie Willis.

Bertha is survived by her husband and best friend, Frederick Robert “Bob” Loughren; daughters Karen Whaley of Bartow and Linda Loughren of Arcadia; four grandchildren, Brent (Susan) Addison, Gary (Martee) Loughren, Rachel Kipp and Chelsea Messick; five great-grandchildren; brothers Russell (Edith) Willis, Fred (Geneva) Willis and Bobby (Colleen) Willis; sisters Beatrice Kellner and Barbara Jean (Jay) Williams; maternal aunt Lola Watkins, sister-in-law Peggy Jo (Earl) Terry, 22 nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her son Richard Glenn Loughren; parents Bernard and Essie Willis; and siblings Roy Willis, Jerry Willis and Shirley Murphy.

Ms. Loughren was a lifelong resident of DeSoto County, graduating from DeSoto County High School in 1954. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church of Arcadia and was a retired florist. She will be remembered for her beautiful silver hair and for being the most loving and best-loved person in our lives.

Funeral services were Nov. 26 at the First Christian Church, Arcadia, with the Rev. Dave Woodrum officiating. Burial followed at Joshua Creek Cemetery.
