Tia Shannah Thompson, 40, was arrested on June 28 on charges of drug possession and grand theft auto.
According to records from the Arcadia Police Department and Clerk of Court, a man reported that his girlfriend, Thompson, had borrowed his car the day before and had not brought it back. He said he had just bought it that day.
When he asked her to bring it back that evening, she said she would, but she never did. When he tried to reach her again later, she would not answer his calls, so he finally reported it to police.
Police issued a Be On the Lookout notice and the car was located with Thompson and a man. When police asked her why she didn't bring the car back, she said she didn't want to, and she felt that—because she lived with the victim—she didn't have to return it.
When police searched the vehicle they found a purse with Thompson's driver's license and two small baggies with a substance that tested positive for 0.4 grams of cocaine.
Thompson was charged with grand theft of an auto, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession or use of drug paraphernalia. She is still in jail on $3,500 bond and is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 9.
