Mini-workshop for teachers planned
The local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a group of Key Women Educators, is holding a free mini-workshop entitled Coffee, Donuts, and Literacy from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 29 at Murdock Baptist Church, 18375 Cochran Blvd., Port Charlotte. Certified teachers of reading and general education will present four literacy topics of interest designed for teachers, parents, students, and interested community members. Floridians to hold meeting
The Floridians will hold its September meeting on Sept. 18, beginning with coffee at 9:30 a.m., at St. James Episcopal Church, 1365 Viscaya Drive, Port Charlotte. The program will feature Leslie Martin, Executive Director, from Jesus Loves You Ministry, Inc., a mobile outreach for the homeless in SW Florida. The Floridians is a civic-minded, social organization that meets monthly, September through May. Group activities include visits to area cultural events, concerts and local attractions as well as active flight bridge, lunch bunch and book discussion groups. El Jobean Fishing Pier to be closed

Basket Bingo scheduled
The Animal Welfare League will hold a Basket Bingo from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 23111 Harborview Road, Port Charlotte. Amp'd Youth car wash
Community Life Center is holding a car wash for its Amp’d youth group from noon to 4 p.m. on Sept. 15, at the Punta Gorda office of Charlotte State Bank & Trust, 2331 Tamiami Trail. The church is raising money to help fund trips to the Rise youth conference in November at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando. Players announce auditions
Auditions for the Charlotte Players production of “Arsenic and Old Lace” will be held on Sunday, Sept. 16, and Monday, Sept. 17, at the Charlotte Players Community Theater Center, 1182 Market Circle, Port Charlotte. Ian Bisset, who is directing this classic of American theater, is seeking adult actors of all ages. Auditions begin at 7 p.m. both days.
