A North Port man was charged with vehicular homicide for a fatal wreck in March.

Thomas Wright, 23, of the 34000 block of Parlay Lane, was reportedly speeding when he collided with another vehicle on March 19, killing the other driver, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Wright was driving on Veterans Boulevard “at a high rate of speed” shortly before 4 a.m. when he ran a red light at Atwater Street and T-boned an SUV in the intersection, according to the FHP report. The SUV then hit a tree.

The SUV’s driver, a 31-year-old Port Charlotte man, was killed, and a 29-year-old female passenger from Port Charlotte was seriously injured.

The FHP no longer identifies people involved in crashes because of Marsy’s Law.

Wright, after an “exhaustive criminal investigation,” was arrested Thursday and booked into the Charlotte County Jail, according to the FHP.
