A pedestrian died Thursday after being struck in the crosswalk at the intersection of Gertrude Avenue and Aaron Street.

A pedestrian died after being struck by a Chevrolet Venture on Thursday morning at an intersection in Port Charlotte, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Edward John Bedingfield, 46, of Port Charlotte, was driving on Gertrude Avenue and made a right turn onto Aaron Street, striking Vera Lozen, 80, of Port Charlotte, who was walking on or near the crosswalk, according to FHP.

The vehicle stopped facing south on Aaron Street, with the Lozen pinned beneath the vehicle. Lozen was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

Criminal charges are pending investigation, according to FHP.
