A construction worker along Bermont Road was injured Friday morning when his leg was struck by the wheel of a trailer.

SARASOTA — A tractor trailer slammed into a stopped van Friday on Interstate 75, triggering a seven-vehicle crash that injured six people.

The crash happened at 11:37 a.m. at mile marker 205 near the Clark Road-State Road 72 exit, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

A 23-year-old Lake Placid man driving a tractor trailer crashed into a van that was stopped in the middle lane because of heavy traffic. The van flipped on its side. The driver of the van, a 67-year-old man from Parrish, Florida, received minor injuries.

A 47-year-old Sarasota man driving a sedan crashed into the truck and became wedged underneath and dragged as the truck slammed into other vehicles. The sedan driver sustained critical injuries, the FHP reported.

Four other vehicles were subsequently involved in the crash, with all of their occupants suffering minor injuries.

The FHP did not identify any of the people in the report. They included a 54-year-old Lehigh Acres man, a 45-year-old Sarasota man, a 39-year-old Sarasota woman and a 72-year-old man from Lawrenceville, Georgia.

“The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate this traffic crash,” the statement reads. Charges are pending.
