Jeanne Yvonne Sawyer was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She passed peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. She was born to Edna (Cramer) and Oscar Allen on March 20, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio.
She enjoyed private acting and singing lessons and played piano, clarinet, and alto sax in the Rhodes High School marching band. She was in her mother's Girl Scout troop with her younger sister Vivian Joanne (1933) and loved riding horses.
Jeanne had four children with her high school sweetheart George Elmer Galayda and later married Frank Sawyer after being introduced by Pastor Quick of Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Detroit.
Jeanne was very active with her neighbors, church, and women's clubs. She loved creating delicious meals and treats for family and friends. Jeanne was an avid reader, knitter, and traveler, having visited over 40 countries.
She believed that it is easy befriending people that are like you, and it takes courage to befriend those that are different. Her love and inclusivity were contagious, and she was loved by everyone she met.
She is survived by her children: Karen, George (Jan), Steve (deceased), Mike (Colette): four grandchildren: Katrina (Beau), Liana (Dave), Katie, Grace; two great-grandchildren, and beloved friends.
She will be missed, and we know there is a special seat in Heaven with her name on it.
Services will be conducted by Englewood United Methodist Church in Florida on January 15, 2021, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the church of your choice.
