Michael (Mike) Cwanek, CIPE, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Venice Regional Hospice from COPD.
Mike was a consulting engineer in the plumbing design field for over 40 years and a member of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) since 1977. He received the 1994 ASPE – Director’s Award for affecting the inclusion of the Certified in Plumbing Engineering (CIPE) certification credential into the Illinois State Plumbing Code, now nationwide.
In 2003, Mike was the Sr Assoc and Director of Plumbing involved in Phase 1 of Buckingham Fountain rehab in Chicago.
He was also involved in the design of the first-ever “in-place pipe replacement” at 180 Water Tower Place (Chicago) a 74-story skyscraper where Oprah Winfrey used to live on the Magnificent Mile.
Survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Christine (Chris), and son, Matthew, his wife Catharine (Beers), and granddaughters, Torilinn, Allison, and Madelyn.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, at 10:30 a.m., at Faith Life Church, 21090 Iliade Ave., Port Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jesus Loves You Ministry in Port Charlotte or Tidewell Hospice Care Center at Venice Regional Bayfront Health on Rialto, Venice, FL.
