Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis condemned the commemoration of the violent Jan. 6 Capitol riots as an attempt by the news media to “smear” and “insult” the former president’s supporters. “I don’t expect anything from the corporate press, … it’s going to be nauseating.”
What’s nauseating is Jan. 6 where seven people died and a governor who paints an alternative narrative of the insurrection to shift blame away from Trump, his supporters, and the Republican Party. Why? To position this unscrupulous autocrat to become his party’s nominee for U.S. president in 2024.
DeSantis is angry that the mob egged on by Trump has been “insulted,” because most were draped in Trump flags and wore Trump signature red Make America Great Again gear. He chooses to ignore that these “patriots” bludgeoned police officers with baseball bats and flagpoles, gouged out the eye of one officer, chanted “Hang Mike Pence,” and erected gallows on the Capitol grounds. If they were Black, they would have likely been shot dead. That’s what’s nauseating.
