Dec. 6 is one of the most important days in American history. On that day in 1865, the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified, thus outlawing slavery or involuntary servitude in our country.

Four days later, On Dec. 10, we should honor the birthday, in 1805, of William Lloyd Garrison, who played such a vital and courageous role in building the abolitionist movement that finally removed the despicable practice of human slavery in this "land of the free."
