Olde Englewood Village on West Dearborn Street draws people to festivals every season of the year, and this year’s juried Winter Fine Arts & Crafts Festival promises to be the best ever. Over 75 artists and craftspeople will participate by displaying and selling original works in many different mediums.
Exhibitors compete for cash prizes and are awarded ribbons in seven categories: painting, sculpture, jewelry, photography, glass, mixed media and pottery/ceramics. To be eligible for awards artists and craftspeople are required to exhibit during the entire two-day festival so shoppers will have an opportunity to meet them in person.
“We are excited to announce that this annual fine arts festival being organized by the Olde Englewood Village Association (OEVA) and the Englewood Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) will be featuring unique crafts for the first time.
“As always, Dearborn Street will be blocked off to vehicle traffic from Mango to Cedar Street, and although only participating artists, craftspeople, and some food vendors will exhibit during the show, shoppers needing a break for lunch are invited to visit adjacent restaurants who are sure to be offering festival specials.
“Musical entertainment on both days of the festival will be provided by DJ Tom’s Travlin’ Tunes who will broadcast popular songs along Dearborn Street,” announced OEVA organizer, Les Bernstein.
Of course the main attraction, the festival itself, offers art lovers an opportunity to view the works of accomplished artists and purchase unique holiday gifts.
“The Arts Alliance of Lemon Bay will open for business, but we’ll also be featuring a booth where festival attendees can obtain membership forms, art class schedules, and future art show information,” said Alliance president, Stephanie Borchard.
Alliance member Marsha Banas designed this year’s festival poster featuring her beaded sculpture dog, “Burl.” He’s one of several beaded animal sculptures created by Banas, whose paintings, prints, and pet sculptures are exhibited at the Arts alliance of Lemon Bay, 352 W. Dearborn St.
The 2018 Winter Fine Arts & Crafts Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1-2. This event offers a wonderful alternative to mall shopping, and shoppers will have a perfect opportunity to purchase original artwork or jewelry for holiday giving. Dearborn Street shops will also remain open for business on both days.
There is no admission charge, but for a donation of $2, attendees will receive a smiley fact sticker from Englewood Masonic Lodge #360 volunteers. Proceeds benefit Englewood community charities. For directions and information go to www.oldeenglewood.com.
