‘Learn to Fish’ camps

Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center will be once again offering week-long “Learn to Fish” camps for children ages 8 to 13 at Cedar Point Environmental Park, 2300 Placida Road, Englewood. Englewood Sailing Association’s Summer Camps

Learn to sail or improve your skills on Lemon Bay this summer. Registration is now open for youth 10-17 at the Englewood SKY Family YMCA. Camps provide supervised instruction in the fundamentals of sailing, boat handling, water safety, seamanship and environmental awareness. The Lemondrops Summer Theatre Camp

Lemon Bay Playhouse, 96 W. Dearborn St., Englewood, will host The Lemondrops Summer Theatre Camp for children from ages eight through 14. If a child is over 14 years of age and he or she attended one of our previous camps he or she will be accepted into this year’s camp. The camp will include activities such as improvisation, theatre games, body movement, blocking, tongue twisters, arts and crafts and rehearsals. Charlotte Symphony & Charlotte Players Partner on Summer Camps for Kids

The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra will hold its annual Summer Music Camp for students, part of its Symphony Kids initiative, June 10-21 at the Punta Gorda Middle School. Dates and times are coordinated with the Charlotte Players Kids Onstage Summer Drama Camp which takes place at adjacent Charlotte Performing Arts Center. Venice Theatre SummerStock

Venice Theatre SummerStock is a high-energy musical theatre “boot camp” geared to high school and college-age students planning to move into the world of professional theatre. For students who want training by professionals to professional standards, SummerStock is perfect. In addition to rehearsing and performing, the experience includes general and show-specific workshops, technical theatre classes, and work calls. The session begins June 3, and runs through the final performance on Aug. 11. SummerStock students will also perform in their own cabaret in the Pinkerton Theatre. Venice Theatre offers summer adult classes and musical theatre

Registration is open for Venice Theatre’s, 140 Tampa Ave. W., summer adult classes and musical theatre experiences for children and teens. There are five musical theatre sessions and a variety of adult classes being offered. This summer’s offerings give students opportunities to sing, dance, act, and participate in technical theatre. Opportunities for youth are available for students going into grades 1 through 12. For students who have completed second through 12th grade, there are two three-week morning sessions (best suited for beginners) and one six-week afternoon summer musical theatre experience (best suited for more experienced students). The first morning session begins on May 28. The second morning session begins on June 17. Both run from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Both sessions will conclude with a musical production on the theatre’s MainStage.

The six-week session begins June 3 and runs from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students will rehearse and perform Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR, an experience that gives them the opportunity to perform in a fully-produced musical on MainStage and will be open for the public for five performances July 12 through July 14.

Additional summer offerings include a two-week “Theatre Extravaganza” for children going into first and second grades where children rotate daily between singing, dancing, creative dramatics and technical theatre classes. This session begins July 22, and is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. 7th through 12th graders interested in the magical and practical world of backstage are encouraged to enroll in “TechFest,” a Technical Theatre Bootcamp. They will help mount technical aspects for Venice Theatre’s summer programs and participate in the backstage crew of Willy Wonka JR. TechFest is limited to just six students and runs from July 3 to 19, Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Adult offerings are for men and women 18 years and older. They can brush up on solo and ensemble singing with the popular “Singing, Not Just for the Shower!” Two special workshops are being offered: “Get that Callback!” with Glenn Schudel and “Breaking the Barriers! Physical Theatre.” (“Breaking the Barriers” is a two day workshop exploring European Physical Theatre. Finally, a summer session of “Creative Dramatics for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities” will be offered July 20 through Aug. 31 on Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
