The U.S. Army Chorus in concert

The U.S. Army Chorus

Faith Lutheran Church presents The U.S. Army Chorus at 7 p.m. on March 15, at Faith Lutheran Church, 7750 Beneva Road, Sarasota. The concert features a selection of exciting Broadway hits, favorite patriotic songs and stirring operatic excerpts. The chorus is comprised of 20 professional male singers, and a pianist and conductor.

Dr. Joseph Holt, director of music at Faith Lutheran Church and artistic director of Choral Artists of Sarasota, says he’s thrilled that area audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of this elite group of musicians. Before retiring and moving to Sarasota, Holt served for 20 years as the principal pianist with The United States Army Chorus in Washington, D.C. His career afforded him the opportunity to perform for presidents, dignitaries and officials in many unique venues — including the base of the Hoover Dam.

In 1956, The U.S. Army Chorus was established as the vocal counterpart of The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” and is one of the nation’s only professional men’s choruses. From its inception, The U.S. Army Chorus has established and maintained a reputation of excellence in the performance of male choral literature. Beyond the traditional military music and patriotic standards, the repertoire of the Army Chorus covers a broad spectrum that includes pop, Broadway, folk, and classical music.
