Blood drive

The Englewood Fire Area Fire Control District is having a blood drive from 8 a.m.-noon July 15 at Station 71, 599 S. Indiana Ave. Those involved receive a $20 gift card, first responder T-shirt and a wellness checkup.

Fish dinner with music

The Rotonda American Legion Post 113, 3436 Indiana Road, Rotonda West, will serve a fish dinner for $10 or shrimp dinner for $15 with salad, hush puppies, cole slaw and dessert at 5 p.m. Friday, July 15. Sneakers & Socks drive

GFWC Rotonda West Woman’s Club has its third annual Kicks for Kids new Sneakers and Socks Drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 29 at the Rotonda West Community Center, 646 Rotonda Circle, Rotonda West. Drop off pairs of new sneakers and socks to be distributed to school children in need by the Kids' Needs of Greater Englewood.

Sports courts closed

Beach playground construction

The playground at Englewood Beach, 2100 Beach Road, will be closed to the public beginning Aug. 1 for replacement. The playground is anticipated to reopen Sept. 2.  

NP adult basketball league

Sign-ups is open for North Port's Fall 2022 adult basketball league with the North Port Parks & Recreation Department. It's for players 16 and older at the Morgan Family Community Center, 6207 W. Price Blvd., 6-9 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, Aug. 15-Oct. 20. Team fee is $315. Sock Hop

The Rotonda American Legion Auxiliary Unit 113 presents a 1950s Sock Hop, set for 5-9 p.m. Saturday, July 16 at 3436 Indiana Road, Rotonda West. Donations of school age children’s socks and shoes will be accepted. For more information, call 941-697-3616.

North Port candidate forum

The North Port Area Chamber of Commerce hosts a North Port City Commission candidate forum Thursday, July 21 at the AMVETS Post 312, 7050 Chancellor Blvd. Meet candidates from 5-5:45 p.m. The forum is 6-8 p.m. Candidates Victor Dobrin and Philip Stokes from District 5 will participate, as will Commissioner Pete Emrich, a District 4 candidate who is unopposed.  

Business bowling tourney

Signups are open for the Corporate Bowling Challenge Tournament, organized as a fundraiser by the 2022 Leadership North Port Class. It’s 1 to 4 p.m. July 23 at Treasure Lanes, 1059 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte. The tournament consists of three games, food, drinks and more. The cost is $250 per team of four players. Proceeds support Family Promise of South Sarasota County, North Port Art Center, Caribbean American Cultural Connections and other nonprofits to be added. NP Back to School Bash

The North Port Young Professionals have planned its second free Back to School Bash from noon to 6 p.m. July 30 at the North Port City Green. There will be live entertainment throughout the day and continues from 7 to 10 p.m. with the No Filter Band. Back-to-school supply donations are being accepted. Englewood Back to School Bash

The annual Englewood YMCA Back to School Bash is 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 6 at SKY Academy Englewood, 871 S River Road. The event will be a drive-by distribution with backpacks, school supplies and toiletries. During these hours, the Kids Needs closet will also be open at 272 S. Meet the city manager

North Port Forward, a nonprofit organization in North Port, is sponsoring a Meet & Mingle series with a presentation from North Port City Manager Jerome Fletcher. Mother & Son Night

North Port's annual Mother & Son Night is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Sept 23 at the Scout House, 5845 Greenwood Ave. Try archery, fire building, and challenge mom to outdoor games. Attendees can cook dinners, snacks and dessert over the fire they help build. Grandmothers, aunts, guardians, and mother figures are all welcome. It's $20 per couple and $10 per additional person.
