Cristal Gomez is a sophomore at Frostproof High School and is on the cross country team. On October 12, Gomez won the county championship with a time of 18:55. Gomez started running cross country when she was in 6th grade.
What was it like winning the county championship?
When I realized I was winning it I was really happy. It was really emotional for me because it was one of the things I dreamed of doing.
How did you get into cross country?
I got into cross country when my brother and mom were running one day and I told my dad I wanted to do it and he said OK.
Who would you say has been most impactful on your cross country career?
The person that has the biggest impact is my brother, because he’s always there for me and he’s always pushing me to do better and he has big goals for me.
Are there any other sports that you participate in?
Track. (I) started in 6th grade.
What are some of your interests outside of cross country?
When I’m not running, I like to spend time with my family and watch TV.
Do you have a favorite TV show?
I would say it has to be “Stranger Things” on Netflix. It’s pretty good.
What do you plan on majoring in when you go to college?
I want to major in nursing and work in pediatrics.
What advice would you give to someone who is interested in getting into cross country?
To never give up and always have big goals for yourself and never doubt yourself.
