POLK COUNTY - Fresh off the Nov. 6 election, brand new commissioners Rick Wilson and Martha Santiago, along with the rest of the county commission, may be voting to give themselves raises Dec. 18.

County commissioners currently earn $43,905.26 per year. They have discussed giving themselves a $922.01 annual raise to $44,827.27 per year.

According to the Polk County Charter, commissioners can give themselves raises if the vote is unanimous and if the raise percentage is less than that given county employees. County employees will be receiving three percent raises this year. The county commissioners will be voting to give themselves a 2.1 percent raise.

On Dec. 4, the county commissioners voted to approve raises for Polk County Manager Jim Freeman and Polk County Attorney Michael Craig. Each will earn $212,146.74 and $193, 197.72 respectively in 2019.
