THE GOOD – Well, start with Ridge Community. Looks like they have two quarterbacks who can play, that's a luxury. We'll have to wait and see about a knee injury to sophomore Keymari Odum, who ran for a 30-yard TD, although reports over the weekend are it may not be as bad as first feared. Senior Ethan Rinnert was impressive in the pocket, dropping several dimes down the field in a 44-12 win over Bartow. Winter Haven quarterback Eric Williams threw for a pair of first-quarter touchdowns in a 35-12 triumph. Jocquet Jiles added a nice late touchdown run for Auburndale in going over 100 yards on the night. Damione Motley had a big night for Haines City, scoring four times in a 38-9 win over Lake Region.
THE BAD – Frostproof had to wait until Saturday morning to play, then blew a 17-point lead in falling to Avon Park in double overtime. A blocked 20-yard field goal in the first overtime was one of the miscues that cost the Bulldogs the W.
THE UGLY – Lake Wales gets a good and an ugly. The good from rolling up 44 points in their opener. The bad because they gave up 54 in falling to Treasure Coast, who only attempted one pass the entire game, but still managed to roll up almost 400 yards on the ground. That one pass, by the way, was actually returned for a pick-six by Highlander Walter Clayton. Johnny Richardson had a big night, getting almost 200 yards on the ground. Richardson had three scores, and quarterback Chayil Garnett ran for one and threw for another.
