GRAND FINALE – The curtain comes down on the regular season for high school football teams this weekend, a traditional rivalry weekend for some schools. Lake Wales, for example, will welcome Bartow to Legion Field. The two teams have had opposite seasons with Bartow struggling, and Lake Wales heading to the playoffs. Frostproof and Fort Meade will renew pleasantries, at Faris Brannen Stadium. Other matchups: Auburndale at Wiregrass Ranch, Ridge Community on the road against Winter Haven, and Tenoroc at Haines City.

ALL ABOUT THE WOOD – Most youth baseball tournaments still use aluminum bats, but that's not how they play the game in the minor leagues and pros. So Chain O'Lakes Stadium will host a youth wood bat tournament Nov. 10 and 11. Games will also be held at Lake Region High School. Teams will be made up of players under 18 and under 16.

BOXING EVENT – Tanner's Lakeside is known for a lot of good things, in the culinary sense though. So it's not exactly the place you expect to see boxing, but the bell will ring at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. The USA Boxing sanctioned event will have weigh ins at 11 a.m. that morning for the “Battle on the Chain.”
