REAL WARRIORS – Of late, it's been Southeastern University that's captured most of the local college football headlines. So don't look now, but the only undefeated local program belongs to Webber International in Babson Park. Which makes this Saturday a “Showdown Saturday” for the Warriors as they host the Fire, ranked No. 18 in the latest NAIA polls. The game will be played at Denison Stadium in Winter Haven, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. Webber already has one ranked team's pelt on their wall, having taken down No. 19 Campbellsville University in a big way, 45-9, earlier this year. The annual Webber-Warner showdown, by the way, doesn't come until Oct. 27.
HALFWAY HOME – We're at the midway point of the high school football season, meaning every game from here on out will play big into the postseason picture. Team playoff rankings will be released for the first time this week. Remember, however, those points can change pretty radically from week to week as part of the formula for figuring them out is based on the records of teams you have beaten. The game to watch this Friday is Kathleen at Winter Haven, meaning Denison Stadium is truly the place for football fans to be this weekend. Lake Wales is off. Frostproof is riding a winning streak and will get a big test at Victory Christian.
