The Tropics SC soccer team completed a remarkable season July 28 in Texas by defeating Utah’s Murcielago SC and winning the United Premier Soccer League’s National Championship.
Down two goals with around 10 minutes to play, the Polk-based Tropics SC squad scored two goals to force overtime with a 2-2 tie and later win in penalty kicks (4-3).
Keisuke Ohata started the rally for the Tropics, scoring a goal in the 83rd minute. Later, in stoppage time, Victor Parreiras scored a thrilling goal in the 91st minute to force overtime. A total team effort in penalty kicks gave Tropics SC the final advantage and the title.
Tropics SC is professional development team under the umbrella of the Florida Tropic SC organization that plays its home games at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale. It is one of two outdoor teams in the program.
The franchise’s main team, Florida Tropics SC, will return to play in the fall in the Major Arena Soccer League.
