Mary Poppins is everyone’s favorite Nanny! Follow her and her young charges, Jane and Michael Banks, as they embark on a fantastic musical adventure. The children have not been able to keep a Nanny in the house, until they meet their match in Mary Poppins.
The Banks family is somewhat fractured and need to understand how to truly love and appreciate each other. Their home lacks the warmth of a close family. Mary Poppins uses her own brand of magic, common sense and a bit of her special quirkiness to pull everyone back together.
The cast includes Jennifer Percival (Mary Poppins), Andrew Macbeth (Bert), Rylee Spencer (Jane Banks), T.J. Mercer (Michael Banks), Margaret Macbeth (Winifred Banks), Larry McCandless (George Banks), Christi Hagen (Bird Woman) and Mark Reyes (Park Keeper).
This is a show with a large supporting and ensemble cast as well. HLT President Jen Westergom is the director with Lindsay Lynch and Kevin Hacker as assistant directors.
Jennifer Percival returns to HLT after an eight-year hiatus and plays the title role. “This is very exciting. I’ve been away from the theater since my son was born. The last show I was in was ‘Smokey Joe’s Café.’ I’ve always loved Mary Poppins and this show is full of magic, and I get to fly!”
T.J. Mercer is just 10 years old and plays ‘Michael Banks’. “I come from a family with acting in their blood. My last role was ‘Winthrop’ in Music Man. I wanted to be in the show so I could fly!’ (Mercer’s family is very active both on and off the stage at HLT. They are all involved in Mary Poppins).
Christi Hagen plays the mysterious ‘Bird Woman’ and also is the show’s piano accompanist. “I love the songs in the show. I wanted to be part of Mary Poppins because of the message to the kids about humility. Each character they meet and interact with teaches them a life lesson.”
Mary Reyes plays the ‘Park Keeper.’ “I’m only 17, but I play a 40-year old Park Keeper. He is grouchy and loud and does not like Mary bringing the kids to the park. She really annoys him since she is so lively, and disturbs the peace in his quiet park.”
The season sponsor is Dental Care of Mid Florida. The show sponsors are the Highlands News Sun, Alan Jay Automotive Network and the Democratic Women’s Club of Highlands County.
Mary Poppins mixes up her own special recipe of unforgettable songs, irresistible characters, exciting dancing and stage craft into a story that is timeless and enchanting. Everyone will remember “Chim Chim Cheree,” and “A Spoon Full of Sugar.”
The show runs from Aug. 17 through Sept. 9. Evening shows are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.; Matinee shows are Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
