NORTH PORT — Police have learned the identity of the person who was found dead in a North Port home consumed by fire early Sunday morning.
Emergency workers found the body of a 74-year-old male when they entered the home, police reported Monday morning.
“He lived alone and appeared to be living in hoarding conditions,” said city spokesperson Madison Heid in a statement. “Next of kin has been notified.”
After reviewing the fire marshal’s investigation and the Sarasota County Medical Examiner’s report, police suspect no foul play involved in the fire or the man’s death. “The cause or point of origin will probably not be able to be determined due to the conditions of the house,” Heid said.
They would not release the identity of the man.
Firefighters and police officers were sent to the home on the 6700 block of Electra Avenue at 2:30 a.m. Sunday to find the home 75% engulfed in flames.
