After months of obscurity, a letter from Roberta Laundrie to her son Brian Laundrie was released to the media Thursday morning. Among its contents was this drawing of a bird next to the word “Remember...”
The phrase “Burn After Reading” on the letter is alleged by the Roberta Laundrie to Brian Laundrie is reportedly a to reference a book by the same name that the family was familiar with.
One line in the letter mentioned in court argument as a reference to “bake a cake with a file in it” to show the extent of Roberta Laundrie’s love for her son, Brian Laundrie. Brian Laundrie wrote in a journal that he killed his girlfriend, Gabby Petito, while the couple was out West. He died by suicide in a county forest reserve near North Port.
Hundreds of media outlets including Court TV showed the contents of Brian Laundrie’s notebook released by the FBI where he confessed to a “mercy” killing of his girlfriend Gabby Petito before he died by suicide in 2021.
Reporters gathered on the lawn of Brian Laundrie’s parent’s North Port home last September. Later that night, his family reported that he was missing. He died by apparent suicide.
Christopher Laundrie returns to his North Port home in October 2021 after going to the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park to work with police to search for his son, Brian Laundrie. Brian Laundrie’s remains were later found in that area.

NORTH PORT — A letter meant for Brian Laundrie is now available for the world to see.
The letter, written by Roberta Laundrie, was ruled as valid evidence Wednesday in the ongoing civil case between Gabby Petito’s parents and the Laundrie family.
