PUNTA GORDA — The Mariners Annual Change of Watch party was held Jan. 11 at the Isles Yacht Club.

There was décor from the 1960s Hollywood era, along with food, and music from The Hatley Band. The event featured a slide presentation showing the 20-year history of the club, and Mariners activities since 2000. Ten of the founding members were in attendance among 120 current members. Bill Albers, who was a founding member and the first Commodore of Mariners, served as emcee.

The Change of Watch ceremony honors the retiring Board of Directors and welcomes incoming Board members.

Retiring board members include:

• Wayne Sharp, Commodore

• Murray Goldenberg, Vice Commodore

• Sharon Gordon, Secretary

• Frank Scharpf, Treasurer

• Mike Mankin, Director of Cruise

• Jim Lanza, Director of Social

• Mary Brown, Director of Membership

• Richard Northrup, Director of Education

• Sue Hills, Past Commodore

Assuming duties for the New Year are:

The Mariners of PGI is a cruising club that enjoys boating and socializing with PGI neighbors. There are often 8-10 cruising opportunities each month, and numerous social events. Educational programs are conducted at monthly meetings, featuring boating safety, environmental and community issues.
