PUNTA GORDA — A man was taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash on Bermont Road on Tuesday night.
The crash resulted from two pickups traveling west on Bermond Road that morning, after one attempted to pass the other.
The rear pickup entered the eastbound lane at the same time the front pickup attempted to make a left turn onto Sunset Boulevard. Subsequently, the front of the rear truck hit the left side of the front truck.
The front pickup traveled off the roadway, according to FHP, and came to a stop in a roadside ditch. The driver, identified as a 57-year-old Punta Gorda man, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The crash was reported to FHP around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
The driver of the rear truck, identified as a 36-year-old Port Charlotte man, was recorded as having minor injuries after the crash.
