BURNT STORE — A dump truck and pickup collided on Wednesday near Heritage Landing Boulevard, injuring one person and prompting authorities to shut down both lanes of Burnt Store Road for part of the day.
The crash occurred shortly after 11 a.m.
The dump truck leaked some 75 gallons of diesel fuel and was carrying a full load of dirt, according to Charlotte County Fire and EMS spokesperson Todd Dunn.
One person was injured and taken to the hospital.
Dunn said he didn’t have information on the condition of the person injured.
Prompt Towing, the company called to the scene, had to remove the dirt before the dump truck could be towed, Dunn said.
A Bobcat front-end loader was brought in, and a trailer hauled away the dirt.
Dunn said diesel fuel, though not flammable, can damage the surface of the road.
It took several hours to clean up the mess; Burnt Store Road was reopened at 3 p.m.
