SEBRING — The Cracker Trail Elementary School students showed their appreciation Friday morning for the men and women who served our country in the military with a spirited Veterans Day program.

The little ones wearing various red, white and blue themed clothing and hats, showed their patriotism with many songs sung from the heart including “She’s a Grand Old Flag.”

A few students took turns relating composer Francis Scott Key’s inspiration for writing the poem with the words that would later be set to music to become our national anthem — “The Star Spangled Banner.”

As the students, staff and visitors sang “The Star Spangled Banner,” a group of about eight students and a school staff member offered a sign language presentation of the song.

The honor guard from the Sebring VFW Post 4300 presented the colors and the program included a 21-gun salute.

The name of each military veteran present was announced along with their branch of service and the student or students they were related to.

To honor the veterans, the students sang “We Will Not Forget.”

“We won’t forget how you served our country; We won’t forget how you kept us safe; We give you thanks for we still have freedom, honor, courage; We will not forget our veterans!”
