AVON PARK — The works of Miami artist Andres Lopez are on display now at the Heartland Cultural Alliance Museum Gallery within the Peter Powell Roberts Museum of Art in Avon Park.
You can meet Lopez from noon to 2 p.m. today at the museum where he showing his new paintings of seascapes, landscapes, cityscape and wildlife.
The artist’s reception will feature guitar instrumentals by HCA member Kenny Summers, refreshments and print raffle.
It is free and open to the public.
Lopez participated in drawing contests at the tender age of 9. When he became an adolescent, Lopez began taking classes at a local art school and later decided to devote himself to painting.
He excelled in art at the Art Florida Academy and Abdon J. Romero Art Studio with Master Abdon Romero where he graduated in drawing and painting.
Now Lopez paints from his own studio in Miami for a living.
HCA Board Member and HCA Gallery Manager Norma Evans said she learned of Lopez when he was showing his works at a Highlands Art League event on the Circle in Sebring.
“I go around to the different art exhibits and I saw Andres and his work and I liked it,” she said.
Evans invited Lopez to show his work at the HCA Fine Art Gallery at the Sebring Regional Airport and his work was scheduled to be on display for the entire month of June, but due to a leaking roof the exhibit had to be cut short after two weeks.
Since the airport requested there be no more art showings for the remainder of the year, the Heartland Cultural Alliance decided to establish the new exhibit venue at the Peter Powell Roberts Museum of Art.
So now, about 18 of Lopez’s paintings are on display in the museum, which is on the second floor of the Avon Park Community Center, 310 W Main St.
The gallery hours are: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday.
Reopening of the HCA Fine Art Gallery at the Sebring Regional Airport is expected in February 2019.
