AVON PARK – A serious crash at the intersection of North Oleander and West Taunton roads sent three people to Florida Hospital. A driver failed to stop for a posted stop sign, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Highlands County Emergency Medical Services, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office and Highlands Lakes Volunteer Fire Department were on the scene responding to the crash. The investigation was turned over to Trooper Brelsford from Troop F in the north district.
A black Lincoln Navigator collided with the right side of a black Buick Verano, when the Buick Verano failed to stop at the posted stop sign, the FHP reported. The Verano overturned and came to final rest upright on the southwest corner of the intersection, off of the road facing in a southerly direction, the report stated.
As a result of the crash, the driver and sole occupant of the Verano, Mirella Tielves Graveran, sustained injuries and was transported to Florida Hospital.
The two occupants of the Lincoln Navigator – Maribel Toscano, driver, and Isabel Aquino, passenger – were both transported to Florida Hospital as well.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that there was no alcohol involved and all the drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts.
The Buick Verano incurred extensive damage to the doors, hood and windows. Three of the windows were broken out.
The hood of the Lincoln Navigator was crumpled and the headlights were knocked out.
