Gary Hugh Moore

Gary Hugh “Bear” Moore was called home to be with his Lord on Monday afternoon, Nov. 19, 2018. He was in the companionship of his loving wife. Bear was a native Floridian, born Sept. 14, 1954 in Key West. He was the son of Elizabeth Bethel Moore and Hugh Moore. Bear has been a Highlands County resident since 1979.

He was an agriculture technician with the USDA for 20 years. Bear was a member of the Eagles and the Jaycees where he had been a past president. Bear thoroughly enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, grilling, photography, scuba diving and is said to be an avid sailor. Bear was a true “Conch.” He was Catholic by faith.

Bear is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Anita Moore Bennett (Mark), Shannon Moore, Misty Curry Moore, and Chad Carr; grandchildren, Payton Farquhar, Kingsley Bennett and Piper Curry. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carleen Oropeza.

Family will receive friends from 10:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at the First Presbyterian Church with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Ray Cameron will celebrate. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be directed towards Good Shepherd Hospice, 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, Florida 33870 or American Cancer Society.
