LAKE PLACID — Norma Rizer is well known throughout Lake Placid for her indomitable spirit and her sporty red convertible. Her passion for creative computer graphics is nearly as spicy as her car. Rizer may be small in stature but she is a dynamo in business as she is the owner and operator of Hirize Creative.

Whatever a client can imagine, Rizer can create with the clickety clack of a keyboard and the swoosh of a mouse. Jennifer McGee is a fellow Rotarian, friend and Hirize Creative customer.

“Norma listens to her customers and she explains what she is doing every step of the way to ensure that they understand the process,” McGee said. “The customers are able to appreciate the outcome even more.”

Rizer has directed non profits and used her considerable skills to create artistic designs for special projects.

“Norma goes above and beyond for her customers and her friends,” McGee said. “She goes out of her way to help others. Norma personifies the motto of Rotarians, ‘service above self.’ Civically (sic), business-wise and personally, she is the best of the best.”

Rizer has had many facets to her life that led to this career. She originally set out to become a teacher for special-ed students. Disappointed with traditional teaching materials that were professionally made, she decided she could do better at a fraction of the cost.

Rizer graduated computer design school in 1985 and has kept up with the technological race by teaching herself different software applications relevant to her customer’s needs. Rizer is fluent is Corel Draw X7, InDesign CS, PhotoShop CS, Illustrator CS, Dreamweaver CS, Adobe Acrobat and all of the Microsoft Office products. Knowledge of these platforms puts her customers at ease. She will also create and manage websites for her customers.

Rizer was also a stringer for the local newspaper. Once again, putting her creative talents to use in order to disseminate information to the public.

Rizer is also the face behind the Lake Placid Noon Rotary’s World Famous Wild Game Dinner. Rizer monitors and responds for the social media site and website of the civic club. She does the majority of the promoting for the annual dinner, which raises money for the club to distribute to charities it sponsors.

Rizer has been a member of the Heartland Lakesharks Parrot Head Club since its inception. A Lake shark Parrot Head is a person who loves the sights and sounds of the Florida Keys, and the islands and especially enjoys Jimmy Buffett. Rizer and her fellow Parrot Heads get together once a month to listen to island-inspired music and eat good food. They wear Hawaiian print and tie-dye and coconut shells.

It’s not just about the good times for this group though. They “party with a purpose.” Food, clothing, personal hygiene items and presents at Christmas time are collected and given to groups in need.

Rizer cares about her customers, friends and community and her actions illustrate this.
