SEBRING — The Lake Placid and Sebring High School softball teams just keep on winning.
The Green Dragons knocked off Southeast High School (Bradenton) by a score of 5-2 in Friday night’s Class 5A regional quarterfinal.
Lake Placid is 17-12 on the season and will play at district rival Lemon Bay (14-9) in a regional semifinal tonight. The Green Dragons have played the Manta Rays three times this season and have recorded one win.
Lemon Bay beat Lake Placid by a score of 11-10 in the Class 5A-District 12 championship game. Nothing would be sweeter than for the Green Dragons to extract some revenge by beating the Manta Rays today to move one win away from the Class 5A State Final Four.
A Lake Placid victory would put the Green Dragons in the regional finals on Friday night against the winner of the Hardee and McKeel Academy game.
Class 6A Sebring is 23-2 on the season and the Blue Streaks play at Lake Wales (19-8) in a regional semifinal tonight.
Sebring beat Lake Wales twice during the regular season but played its worst game of the year in the Class 6A-District 10 championship game where the Blue Streaks lost to the Highlanders by a score of 8-0.
Sebring bounced back to drill Dunedin by a score of 15-1 in last week’s regional quarterfinals. Lake Wales advanced to tonight’s semifinal game by trouncing Tarpon Springs by a score of 10-0 last week.
A Sebring victory would move the Blue Streaks into the Class 6A regional finals against the winner of the North Fort Myers and Mariner game.
First pitch for tonight’s games are set for 7 p.m.
