VENICE — For more than 20 years, Venice High baseball coach Craig Faulkner has helped mentor teenagers — and has won hundreds of games on the diamond in the process.
On Monday, Faulkner will be honored for his 500th win.
A ceremony will take place prior to the Indians game against Braden River.
“I’ll be accepting the award, but it’s really for all the players that have played at Venice High school and all the coaches here,” Faulkner said Friday. “Everyone has played a roll in it. It’s been nice to be a part of it.”
Faulkner graduated from Venice High School in 1983 and started coached in 1996; becoming head coach in 1999.
“The plaque will hang in Championship Hallway after the presentation,” according to a news release from Venice High School’s Athletic Department.
His 500th win was against St. John Neumann Catholic Church on Feb. 20.
Faulkner said the support for the Venice teams from the community has made an impact.
“It’s a quite an honor to have coached this long. We’ve had such great players at Venice High for the past 27 years,” he said. “To have the success that we’ve had has been pretty neat to be a part of.”
