Sandy McGowan, left, of Sandy’s Designer Clothing, presents a check for the proceeds of the Just-B-Cause fashion show to Rita Bertler, right, president of Dollars For Mammograms, as store associates Carol Keogh and Jean Detcher, volunteer Joan High and associate Addy Griffith look on.

Just-B-Cause, the sixth annual fashion show fundraiser, took place at Pelican Pointe Country Club with 180 guests attending.

Organized by Sandy McGowan, owner of Sandy’s Designer Clothing, 128 W. Venice Ave., the event raised $5,000 for the Dollars for Mammograms.

McGowan presented the check to Rita Bertler, president of the nonprofit charity.

Representing the charity at the event were 12 breast cancer survivors modeling clothes from McGowan’s store.

“What was really important was the generosity of the downtown merchants who are in such a dire situation at this time due to the roadworks and red tide,” McGowan said. “There was a special raffle for the $1,200 ring donated by Kerrie’s Jewels & Gems.”

Dollars for Mammograms will spend the donation on the costs of the program, which covers all aspects of breast cancer research.

In South Sarasota County and Charlotte County last year, more than 250 men and women received assistance. For more information, visit
