Looking for a special Christmas gift which lasts all year and costs only $40? Plus, all proceeds benefit local veterans. It is the “Flags Across Venice-Nokomis” program organized by Venice Nokomis Rotary Club. During the year on five patriotic holidays, local Rotarians of the Venice Nokomis Club will erect the American flag on a 10 foot pole in your yard.

It will appear before, and be removed soon after, the holiday on Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4th, Labor Day and Veterans Day.

Now in its third year the number of program subscribers has increased to more than double for the preceding years.

You do not have to be a permanent resident to participate in this service. Flags will be setup and removed in the absence of the occupier. Most homeowner associations support the project which is managed in military fashion. You decide where you want it and a Rotarian will insert a small piece of plastic piping permanently in the spot.

All proceeds from the program go toward assisting a local veteran and family selected by the local veteran’s association. To participate in the program mail a check for a minimum of $40 for each home to be decorated, made payable to Venice Nokomis Rotary Flags Program, to Venice-Nokomis Rotary, P.O. Box 8, Venice, FL 34285.

Alternatively, to subscribe visit the Rotary Club website at venicenokomisrotary.org/flags-across-venice and complete the purchase application form. For more information email Venice Nokomis Club Rotarians Jim Romano at jaromano392@gmail.com or call 941-786-8447 or Jack Kurschner at elc1095@sbcglobal.net.
