Ready to welcome shoppers are Liesl Capaldi, left, owner of Lisa’s Classic Rose; Mike Ehik, owner of Celebration Corner; and Daria Nafziger, owner of Ciao Gelato, at the corner of West Venice and Nassau avenues.

As everyone begins shopping for Thanksgiving, Christmas and the party season, some merchants on West Venice Avenue have organized a Neighborhood Celebration Month to make it more exciting and less expensive.

It’s an idea from Betty Ehik, of Celebration Corner, 303-A W. Venice Ave.

“Roadworks are due to be completed for us and we want to encourage shoppers to visit our stores and restaurants,” she said.

Participants are Celebration Corner, Ciao Gelato, Smoky Mountain Handmade Candles, Mrs. Candlewick’s Shoppe, Lisa’s Classic Rose and San Marco Restaurant.

“It is such a wonderful, vibrant avenue, so we want people to come, celebrate and visit us this month.” Ehik said.

“Look out for the illuminated colorful shop windows with balloons along the sidewalk indicating the merchants participating in this neighborhood event.”

Today, Wednesday, Nov. 7, Ciao Gelato, 317-A W. Venice Ave., is partnering in a pre-Ghost Tour event. Participants can enjoy coffee, dessert or wine or beer floats prior to embarking on their tour, with tickets half price with a purchase at Ciao Gelato.

Nov. 8 from 6 to 9 pm. is November Rockin’ Nights at Ciao Gelato. George Byrne entertains, hosted by Daria and Rod Nafziger.

Tips to the musician will be matched by Ciao Gelato and donated to Family Promise of South Sarasota County.

Celebration Corner, 303-A W. Venice Ave., stages a Neighborhood Toy Store Day for children from 5 to 10 to make things on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Sessions start at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and the kids can take home what they make. During the month there will be special offers and discounts throughout the store.

San Marco Restaurant, 305 W. Venice Ave., has its second special wine-tasting dinner on Sunday, Nov. 11, from 7:30 p.m. to close.

Mrs. Candlewick’s Shoppe, 307 W. Venice Ave., Unit C, is participating with some specials in the store.

Smoky Mountain Handmade Candles, 305-A W. Venice Ave. is celebrating its 10th anniversary and having recently opened the store in Venice. For November there will be a discount on its Spice of Autumn candles.

Lisa’s Classic Rose, 303-B W. Venice Ave., is discounting Hawaii Jams World fashions. Shoppers spending $100 may pick a discount coupon from the fish bowl and those spending $400 or more can choose a gift. Christmas scarves and tees are in stock.

It’s a great time for people to come down and buy clothes, toys and gifts, Ehik said. Parking is easy using Centennial Park.

Watch for more details of new and continuing Neighborhood Celebration Month events to be highlighted in the Venice Gondolier Sun.
