VENICE — The city instituted a flag donation program in 2012 to provide an opportunity for American flags to fly in honor of our country.
The city accepts donations of American flags that people have received as memorial gifts or that people or organizations wish to donate in recognition or memory of a person or institution for the express purpose of flying them on public grounds.
Donors receive a letter of appreciation from the city manager and, with their permission, are publicly recognized by the City Council for their civic contribution.
Donated flags in good condition, suitable for flying from a flagpole, may be brought to Public Works, 1350 Ridgewood Ave., Venice.
Residents may also make arrangements for the pick-up of flags by the Venice Police Department by calling 941-882-7543 and leaving a message.
