The Venice Indians state champion baseball team had their last hurrah at a joint luncheon of the Venice-Nokomis Rotary and Sertoma Clubs. Many of the players are already away at college and those on hand are starting conditioning every morning around 5 a.m. for the 2019 season.

Coach Faulkner gave a great play by play of the championship series with the championship game won by the Venice Indians after 1 a.m. in Ft Myers.

One of our best

The special person of this week is Craig Faulkner head coach of the Venice Indians High School Baseball team. Craig was recently inducted into the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Hall of Fame. There are many plaques, pictures and trophies at Venice High School showcasing Craig and his team’s athletic achievements. Craig’s greatest achievement is being a Godly man in this community who gives everyone a chance for greatness.

That greatness means being kind and respectful. His players always display good sportsmanship. On Veteran’s appreciation night Craig makes sure everyone feels like family. Every veteran from the age of 20 to 99 gets to throw out a first pitch and gets a signed baseball. Throughout the year fans are made to feel like a part of the team. We often hear players say, “We love our fans, the always seem to be having so much fun.” Craig reminds the players to acknowledge the fans.

It’s easy to celebrate Craig. He is kind, loving and funny with a great sense of humor. Craig Faulkner, we are proud to be part of your team. Craig Falkner is one of the men who makes Venice a great place to live.

Sun Fiesta Count Down

Starting Friday evening, Oct 19 the fun begins at the Venice Airport as the Women’s Sertoma Club of Venice sponsors their annual Sun Fiesta to benefit the community projects they sponsor.

The Sertoma Club kicks off the Sun Fiesta weekend with their wine tasting Thursday night, Oct 18 at the Historic Venice Train Depot. Proceeds benefit their speech clinic.

Be sure to eat the Cheeseburgers in Paradise cooked by Sertoma members at the Sun Fiesta. They are delicious and such a deal.

Plans are for a weekend of fun, friendship and food. Visit them online and check out the schedule in the Venice Gondolier Sun.
