"Cal"

“Cal,” painted by Kitt Moran, won first place at the current “Near and Far” show at Venice Art Center. The opening reception took place Friday.

If you’re at the Venice Art Center in Venice any time this month, stop in and see the “Near and Far Show.”

The accompanying painting, “Cal,” by local artist and singer Kitt Moran, took first place in the current show.

“Cal” Liam O’Callaghan is from Ballygarvan, Ireland, where he was hired by Moran and friends to drive the group to a local restaurant from the B&B where they were staying.

“He then picked us up and took us to a tiny, very old and wonderful Irish pub that had only four bar stools and a few tables. Kitt said, “The three gentlemen who occupied the bar stools at the time were quite surprised to see five women invading their domain, accompanied by Cal of course.”

This painting is quite a memento of that special vacation.

See Moran and friends performing at Allegro Bistro on East Venice Avenue Saturday, Jan. 15, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
