A Veterans Day ceremony in Venice will be held in Patriots Park, 800 Venetia Bay Blvd, Venice, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 with patriotic music, the presentation of colors and speakers. American Legion NO-VEL Post 159 will again be hosting this year’s observance. Also participating will be Venice Mayor John Holic with a proclamation from the City of Venice and County Commissioner Charles Hines with a Sarasota County proclamation. All are invited; bring chairs.
On Sunday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. the Englewood Community Redevelopment Area and the Friends of Englewood Veterans Memorial and Freedom Pavilion are hosting the third annual Veterans Day Celebration of Honor at the Englewood Veterans Memorial, 10 Harbor Lane, Englewood. The event is free and open to the public.
On Sunday, Nov. 11, at 2:30 p.m., Diocese of Venice Bishop Frank Dewane will celebrate Mass at Sarasota National Cemetery. The purpose of the event is to recognize the sacrifices of those who served in the Armed Forces of the United States. The Knights of Columbus are again organizing this year’s event. Last year, approximately 2,000 worshipers attended. The event is free and open to the public.
In Venice, City Hall will be closed Monday, Nov. 12, for the observance of the Veterans Day holiday.
There will be no change in pickups for garbage, yard waste and recyclables. Residents are reminded to have their items to the curb by 7 a.m.

All Sarasota County government offices, including libraries, recreation centers and the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County, will be closed Monday, Nov. 12, in observance of Veterans Day.
Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus service, including paratransit service and the Siesta Key Breeze, will operate on a regular schedule Monday, Nov. 12.
Garbage will be collected as regularly scheduled Nov.12 for residential customers of unincorporated Sarasota County served by Waste Management.
The Central County Landfill at 4000 Knights Trail Road and the Citizens’ Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be open Nov. 12, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and the Central County Landfill Administration Office will be closed.
The Chemical Collection Center and Re-Uz-It Shop at 8750 Bee Ridge Road will be open Monday. The Chemical Collection Center at 250 S. Jackson Road will be closed Monday.
